THE COLLECTIONS

Surround Yourself with Art That Speaks of Strength and Beauty

Each painting in Donald Drake Fine Art collection is more than an image—it’s a story of strength and endurance. Through brushstrokes of light, texture, and color, these works reflect the quiet beauty found in both people and places that refuse to give up.

Whether it’s the weathered coastline of New England, the resilience in a portrait, or the stillness of everyday objects, each piece holds its own truth. The hope is that as you explore these collections—landscapes, figures, portraits, and still lifes—you’ll find something that speaks to your own story of resilience and beauty.

BECAUSE ART REVEALS THE STRENGTH WE CARRY WITHIN

weathered grace

Landscapes shaped by time, light, and the grace of endurance.

Landscape Collection

“The sun will not rise or set without my notice." Winslow Homer

Painting landscapes is about presence—being outdoors, surrounded by shifting light, changing weather, and fleeting color. Each piece is a response to those passing moments of beauty.

Yet landscapes also carry stories of endurance. I’m drawn to coastlines, weathered rocks, and wind-battered homes not just for their beauty, but because they speak of resilience—of standing firm through time and storm.

Like Homer, Sargent, and Bellows, I’m pulled toward Maine’s coast, a place that quietly endures. These paintings honor that spirit and invite you to see your own story within them.

Ground Perspectives

“The landscape belongs to the person who looks at it.”

— Philosopher

Offering a natural perspective that's always open to wonder and revelation, this collection captures the beauty found in grounded views.

enduring Spirit

Celebrate the lives and strength of those who matter most—at home, in your family, or within your institution.

Portrait Collection

"Portraits that capture more than a likeness-they capture a life."

"From a young age, I’ve been drawn to the challenge of capturing a likeness—of studying a face and bringing it to life with brush and color. My classical training at Boston University and American University emphasized the mastery of the human figure, but even then, I knew it was never just about anatomy. It was about soul."-Don

"You excel at pastel portraits."

-Marvin S. Sadik: Director Emeritus, National Portrait Gallery, Washington, DC

lines of life

Tracing resilience, strength, and the journey of the human spirit—through figures that inspire, move, and endure

Figure Painting Collection

"A painting requires a little mystery, some vagueness, and some fantasy. When you always make your meaning perfectly plain you end up boring people."

— Edgar Degas

"Behind every figure is a story. My work honors people who rise above adversity—those who carry quiet strength through struggle, perseverance through pain, and hope in the face of uncertainty. Whether it's a dancer chasing a dream, a fighter preparing to stand alone, or someone simply surviving the day—these are portraits of resilience. Through classical training and expressive color, I strive to capture the courage that lives in ordinary, extraordinary people."-Don

Dimensional Depths

“Everything is expressed through relationship. Colour can exist only through other colours, dimension through other dimensions...”

— Artist

By reintroducing dimension to images and presenting them in large-scale formats, this collection provides an immersive experience, inviting viewers to explore relationships within art.

still strength

Discover quiet beauty in the everyday—paintings that steady the spirit and bring peace to your space

Still Life Collection

"I put a great deal of thought into the arrangement, but with the idea of making it look like a natural arrangement of random objects".

— Henri Fantin-Latour

"What begins as something simple—a few apples, a folded cloth—becomes a chase for light, color, and truth. These quiet moments reveal that even the most ordinary things can hold extraordinary beauty, if you linger long enough to see it."-Don

Dream Realms

“I believe the world is incomprehensibly beautiful, an endless prospect of magic and wonder.”

— Photographer

From ephemeral cherry blossoms to timeless canyons, this collection offers a journey filled with wonder, delight, and a comforting sense of peace.

bearing witness

Art created in real time, revealing both the gravity and humanity within the courtroom

Courtroom Art Collection

"Courtroom sketching allows me to witness and capture some of the most intense, emotional, and human moments imaginable. In these charged settings, people fight for justice, defend their dignity, and reveal who they truly are—often in ways words cannot fully express."

— Don

"Each sketch is more than a drawing; it’s a deeply personal record of a moment that will never happen again. The expressions, the tension, the quiet strength or vulnerability—it’s all part of the story I try to preserve with honesty and empathy."-Don

Sacred Landscapes

In all things of nature, there is something of the marvelous.”

— Philosopher

A special collection of aerial images capturing the essence of sacred lands, offering perspectives not commonly seen, evoking a sense of wonder and reverence.

true character

Capturing personality with honesty, warmth, and a touch of wit.

Caricature Collection

I might want to be critical, but I don't wish to be destructive. Caricature that goes too far simply lowers the viewer's response to a person as a human being."

-David Levine

Caricature is an art of insight—penetrating, illuminating, and at times, playfully humiliating. I've long been inspired by the legendary David Levine, whose brilliant distortions captured not just appearances but personalities. Following in his footsteps, I approach each caricature as both tribute and challenge: to distill a person's essence into a single image that is both revealing and respectful.

Illuminations

“If light is in your heart, you will find your way home.”

— Poet

Capturing the magical moments from above during twilight, when the world glitters and hints at the promise of the coming night.

Perspectives

“Life is about perspective and how you look at something… ultimately, you have to zoom out.”

— Thought Leader

A light-hearted reminder that things aren't always as they appear. These aerial sightings are unexpected, serendipitous, and challenge our usual viewpoints.

THE PROCESS

Before the canvas holds color, it already holds a story.

Inspiration often begins in a quiet moment—a shadow shifting across a wall, the grain of weathered wood, the stillness just before dawn. My process starts there, in observation and patience, waiting for light, emotion, and place to align.

Each painting is a deliberate act of seeing—balancing form and feeling, surface and soul. Whether it’s a portrait, a rugged shoreline, or a fleeting scene from the courtroom, my goal is the same: to capture truth and presence, the kind that lingers after you’ve looked away.

These works are more than images. They’re moments of reflection—reminders of resilience, faith, and the quiet beauty that lives inside the everyday.

COLLECTOR REVIEWS

Words from those who’ve welcomed Don's art into their lives.

"The color contrasts are just gorgeous! It looks so real. Like you could step into the picture and stand behind her admiring God as He moves. Just beautiful and breathtaking."

— jody s.

“This is remarkable talent, Don. To not only capture the physical resemblance of the people, but to do it and fill the scene with the emotion of the moment as well. All the work you have done to master your craft clearly shows is evident in each sketch.”

— Bonny S.

“All art depends on your inspiration; you can only feel it when you are in it, so you are very good.”

— Prybl Joe Brad

“We had such an incredible experience using Don to paint a portrait for my brother-in-law and his wife for a wedding gift. He captured every little detail from the joy on their faces to their playful demeanor in the picture. When we gifted it to them the look on their faces was priceless!!! They were so thrilled for such a meaningful piece of art that they will be able to share for many years to come. We are incredibly blessed and grateful for Don's hard work and amazing talent on this portrait. We are also incredibly impressed with the turnaround time as well. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Don!!!.”
